New Mexico Belly Dance and Sirena Studio are proud to present ‘Burque BellyFest III, June 21-23- a weekend of workshops, performance and all things Belly Dance. The goal of ‘Burque BellyFest is to bring together a weekend of affordable workshops offered by our best New Mexico member instructors. A percentage of our proceeds go toward scholarships for NM belly dancers.

All workshops will be held at Sirena Studio, 9577 Osuna Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111, both days. Workshops are limited to 20 attendees, unless otherwise noted.

About the Workshops: NM Belly Dance and Sirena Studio are bringing together some of New Mexico’s top instructors, teaching on topics they specialize in, highlighting their knowledge and expertise. Meet & Greet at Kaktus Brewery, Friday, June 21
Let’s join Sadie and her Desert Darlings at Kaktus Brewery for a meet and greet and all your favorite dancers. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Yummy food and beer available. Interested in dancing? Dancers registered for at least one workshop are invited to perform. Limited slots available. Contact Sadie at SIRENADANCESTUDIO@gmail.com if interested.
Gala Show
Showcasing the best of New Mexico Belly Dance, our evening show will be a treat! Proceeds from the Gala Show will benefit a New Mexico Belly Dance scholarship fund for dance students.

Two swords are better than one! YOU can master the art of the double sword - and perform it at Burque Bellyfest with us! Alluring, mysterious and enchanting are often used to describe the sword dance. This fun and fancy sword dance will not only boost your confidence and sword-balancing skills and take them next level, you will get to bond with a team of dancers and perform in the big show!
Learn slick new moves and how to safely transition from standing to floorwork and the secrets of a few fantastic stunts so you can add them to your personal repertoire.
Anyone can do it - all you have to do is try! Preppers - pre-event practices will be available via zoom and recorded instructions before we meet in person...simply inquire. Swords can travel with you, and we can tell you how to make sure they arrive with you safely. This workshop will literally knock your socks off - not to be missed!

The legendary Myra Krien will join us to get your Raks groove flowing with her signature improv style.
Arabic dance is the dance of the soul. These signature Oriental combinations can be used in both individual and group improvisation for Raks Sharqi. Eight exciting S.O.U.L. combinations are taught in this workshop, each from a different family of movement and in a different floor pattern.

Explore the dynamic world of fan veil technique, through Sara's signature style! Covering everything from posture to artistic expression, this workshop will explore a wide variety of techniques, covering the tips and tricks, and the when and why of fan veil artistry. Suitable for all levels.

Don’t fear the musician! From drum to instrumental, participants in this workshop will learn what to listen for when dancing to live music, how to interpret what they're hearing, and how to pull off a performance to a live band. The fabulous Meg York and David Brown will be joining this live music workshop!

Participants will be introduced to interesting arm patterns that include waving, finger articulation, and sharp angles, layered over isolations and traveling with a touch of theatrics as we break down a few combos to Leaf's choreography to the song, "Human" by Sevdaliza.

Get out your fringe and tease your up your big hair! Legendary Kamala Almanzar will connect us with the 1980s in the style performed in nightclubs. Layers on top of everything! Travel steps, undulations, turns! Technique & Combinations.

Deborah Newberg will share her expertise in this exciting introduction to the beautiful art of Persian Dance. We will cover basic step patterns, arms and hands, 6/8 rhythm and the Persian flavor. Dancers will learn the basics of Persian dance and an appreciation of this beautiful art.

Are you intimidated by odd rhythms? Let’s demystify the Samai Thaqil, a 10/8 pattern! We’ll spend time breaking down three different finger cymbal patterns (yay, we get to sit down!), and then we’ll begin layering over some elegant dance combos to the classic song, “Lamma Bada.” Let’s play!
